Feeding Futures With More Than A Meal
Fill the future this holiday season.
Across the globe, millions of families in underserved communities are doing everything they can to build stable, thriving lives. But hunger holds them back. It drains energy from children eager to learn, limits opportunities for parents working to provide and prevents entire communities from reaching their full potential.
At Rise Against Hunger, as you’ve likely heard before, we believe ending world hunger starts with a meal. But we also believe the meal is only the beginning. Through The Gift That Fills, our year-end fundraising campaign, we’re calling on Hunger Champions everywhere to join us in fueling long-term solutions that go beyond immediate hunger relief — empowering families to nourish themselves, learn, earn and grow with dignity.
Your partnership today sustains holistic programs that not only fill plates, but also fill futures — with nutrition, education and opportunity.
Together, we can ensure every meal shared today builds a stronger tomorrow.
Why Your Support Matters Now
673 million people around the world are currently facing hunger. Even more — 2.3 billion — are food insecure, meaning they lack consistent access to the nutritious food needed to thrive. For families in underserved communities, every day begins with uncertainty: Will there be enough to eat?
The need remains great. Hunger limits a child’s ability to learn and a parent’s ability to earn. It robs communities of stability and stifles hope. Yet, progress is possible — and it’s happening. The most recent FAO report reports that 15 million fewer people experienced hunger this year compared to last year. To accelerate this progress and fulfill our vision of a world without hunger, we must act together.
At Rise Against Hunger, we’re tackling hunger from all sides:
- Confronting crisis with nutrient-dense meals when families need them most.
- Building sustainability through agriculture, nutrition and income-generating programs.
- Opening opportunity so children can learn, families can thrive and communities can grow.
Every meal packaged, every farmer trained and every student fed moves us one step closer to a world without hunger. But we cannot slow down — not now.
This is the season to stand together and deliver the gift that truly fills: food, stability and a future filled with possibility.

Strength, Stability And Hope
The gift that filled Nelly’s table.
“We were yielding very little, and the crops could not sustain us the whole year,” Nelly remembers. As a mother of seven and a farmer with two decades of experience, the stress of inconsistent yields was all-consuming. A poor harvest not only strained her family financially, but also limited their own meals to just two a day. Their story reflects that of many in their fishing and farming village near a lake in the Karonga district of northern Malawi. Here, heavy rainfall makes conventional farming methods nearly impossible. The entire village is, quite literally, saturated in food insecurity — a reality that leaves families struggling to survive season after season without a dependable source of nourishment.
In 2019, Nelly began participating in Harvesting Prosperity and Resilience, a sustainable agriculture project implemented by Rise Against Hunger in partnership with the Foundation for Community Support Services (FOCUS). The project works with 3,100 smallholder farmers in Malawi’s Karonga and Mzimba districts to strengthen food and nutrition security by improving production methods, nutrition practices and household income.
Just one year later, Nelly was ready to expand the variety of crops on her farm. What land once only produced maize began to flourish with sesame, cowpeas, rice and groundnuts during the rainy season (summer), as well as maize and vegetables during the dry season (winter). Through climate-smart agriculture training, she learned new techniques like manure making, pit planting and mulching, crop rotation and intercropping. Equipped with these tools, Nelly’s farm began to thrive.
